da Bomb - Chocolate Bowl

Chocolate Bowl from Mama Bakery

Went to Velocity New Balance outlet to check out if new designs for shoe bags are out, but sadly, the designs are the old ones. Not wanting to waste my trip there, i am determined to buy something back at least... and so... Mama Bakery came to my mind.

I have went there a couple of times, and it never disspoint me. The An Pans are real good! But today, I opt for something more "special", the Caramel Banana Chocolate Bun was too chocolatey, that's is not so good if you can only taste the chocolate and not the banana/ caramel. But GF likes it!

The Chocolate Bowl as featured above measures about 20cm in diameter, and smells great! Taste-wise, the chocolates used are skewed to the dark side, so it is more of a bitter chocolatey taste which I like! But, the bread texture wise, it was a tat too moist inside.

I still think Bonjour Chocolate Chip Loaf is better afterall, minus the fact that the chocolate chips could be better!

Breadtalk Christmas Special

Breadtalk came up with a series of new bread for this coming xmas! and their price is tagged high high... but is it really worth for these pretty looking bread... you can only judge from their appearance, but whats inside you have no freaking idea yet you risked forking out paying close to 2 bucks for each! So let FDGM tells you whats good and whats not.

This is a combination of bread and chocolate sponge cake whereby the cake is enveloped within the bread layer. The chocolate sponge cake tastenot too bad, and the top layer of white and milk chocolate adds some flavout to the if not bland tasting bread. But overall, i do like it.

A spiraling bread with custard inside it and coated with a chocolate layer. I dunno what is this supposed to symbolise for xmas, but dun you think with that flower/leaf sticking on top, it looks like: 上. And I like this too.

This xmas log taste just like a log. It is hard, bcos it is baguette that is toasted and sprinkle with some icing and coating with some chocolate at the base. The interior is nothing, just plain. At at price tag of $1.80, it is really not worth! you can just get a long baguette with that amount.

This is the best, but also the worst taken photo. lol. It resembles a xmas tree, with bread enveloping custard, and the bread is decorated generously with nuts, seeds and dried fruits. It is sort of like xmas fruit cake but on a bread instead. Buy this!!!

Sunday Lunch - Toast Day

Inspired by Bread Talk "Rise and Shine" - but darn, my egg doesn;t shine on me, but its still as nice la... with twice the amount of ham and cheese as compared to Breadtalk! Dig a hole, crack and egg inside the hole, toast it, add cheese and ham! and that is it! oh.. n sprinkle with some coarse black pepper!

My own Hawaiian Pizza - ham cheese pasta sauce and pineapples!

Substitute the ham with Tuna - and you get tuna pizza!

Singapore Bakery and Confectionary

Singapore Bakery and Confectionary

A very old school Bakery. I remember during those days when i was younger (when i was still a cute white chubby primary school kid, lol), the aroma of the freshly baked bread never fails to attract my attention every morning.

My Primary school school used to stand just directly opposite this bakery, but now it has shifted to somewhere in Tampines. I have not bought anything from them since the 90s, and I was pleasantly surprised that this shop is still operating till now, everything remains more or less the same. They used to bake bread using coal-fired ovens, I am not sure if they still do, but i am very positive that no one does that anymore.

When I got there, the shop is already closing although it is only 3pm. There are not much bread left. Their very superrrrr soft and nice bread loaves (those that are used for making Kaya toast) are already all gone by then. But luckily, there is something left for me still. =)

Tada! Its a normal looking cream-roll that is not really normal, because the texture and taste is so different from those that are mass manufactured by Gardenia or other bakeries

the top layer has a very nice texture, somewhat firm. But the interior is so soft and fluffy like cotton! Sandwiched between the cottony bread is a thin layer of cream. The cream is not those homogenous cream we usually see in other cream rolls, it has some precipitates of sugar crystals suspended within it (sounds so engineering...haha, but i cant think of a better description for it) , giving it a very nice crunchy feeling while sicking your teeth into it!

Food Barn @ Comtech Alexandra

Qn: What do you get if meeting last for too long until it hits your lunch hour?
Ans: Free Lunch from Food Barn!

Cheese Steak Baguette - My intern friend was telling me why I like to eat "Bak Kut Teh" so much... I was lost... since when did I say I like to eat Bak Kut Teh??? finally get the lame joke... lol...

Baguette: Ba-Gu-Te: Bak Kut Teh

Its just a cold lame joke. =P

Anw, I feel in love with the sandwiches from food barn, the moment I sank my teeth into this 2 ordinary looking baguette. The bagutte was lightly toasted, and the filling was a generous portion of beef and melted cheese... topped with caramelized onions... sweet. 2 of this is just not enough!

Everyone was ordering all the choco shakes and all the unhealthy shakes la... im like the only one ordering something hot and healthy! Lemon Tea - it has a very gentle and light lemon aroma... keeps u a refresh and recharged!

BreadTalk @ Citylink

After 10pm, certain breadtalk outlets have a special promotion - 5 buns @ $6, or 10 buns @ $10. Its a good thing that they have this promotion, cuz its really a waste to see this buns dumped into the bin.

I have tried almost all their bread, and I must say that, not all the bread are fantastic. Probably out of all their collections, only 10% is nice. Since this is not a japanese bakery, so it will be unfair to compare them to bakeries like Provence or mama bakery. I am not saying breadtalk is fantastic, but they do have some bread which are nice imo!

Some of my personal favourites in order of ranking are:

1. Sunny Side Up: Toast spread with butter, and topped with a sunny side-up and ham. Simple yet so beautifully done.

2. Cranberry Cheese: I like the fluffiness of the bread, and the occasion burst of flavour from the cranberry, and the ball of melted cheese in the center of the bread. Spendid!

3. Curry Dozo:
Its deep fried breaded bun, filled with curry potatoes and egg. Eat them while they are hot! Get the cold ones, and you will regret big time!

4. Coco Terry: a bearish look-alike bread, filled with milk chocolate and white chocolate.

This is coco terry, it is supposed to be a bear, but sometimes, due to human error, it looks like a pig!

so what is your favourite bread from breadtalk? =)

Ma Maison @ Bugis Junction, Swiss Bake Cake, Provence Scones

This is super overdue la... I still have a lot of food photos stacking up, awaiting me to blog about them! I shall try and blog daily from today onwards, its kind of tedious, kind of like homework stacking up even thou its the holidayS!

Ma Maison - Japanese Western Food

This place was chosen by my girlfren for her birthday! Japanese and Western, both her favourites, fused into one! She will love it!

Very nice deco inside the restaurant... very Victorian style, very romantic too with all the nice lightings and pretty table cloth.

Anyway, see that sign on the table? Ladies get to enjoy 20% off on Monday night! argh... why this discrimination against my gender!

They have a pretty large array of dishes in their menu, but we settled for two voted as the best by bloggers!

While waiting for the food to arrive... fiddling with the stuffs on the table... they provide wet tissue!

and while waiting and waiting and waiting for the food to arrive... Ta da! A Bag of freshly baked scones from Provence for you!

Chocolate Chip scones and cranberries scones! No more lousy four leaves scones! Provence scones is the only scones that I will eat... the texture is what it is to be called scones! Where is Provence? Refer to my past entry here!

4.6 Scones / 5.0 Scones

The first dish arrives - Hamburger Steak @ $19.80

Initially I wanted to order the one with cheese, but i don't know why im so blur and point to the wrong picture when ordering! But its ok! cos this is still as good i supposed. The beef patty is rich in flavour, and I love that sunny side so much! The brown sauce that comes along with it has a very unique taste

4.2 Hamburger / 5.0 Hamburger

Beef Stragonov with Omu Rice

The Omu rice is so closeee to perfection. Thick yet soft layer of warm milky egg enveloping the butter rice, and just like the beef patty, the beef here is rich in taste and soft... its goooooddddd...

4.6 Beef / 5.0 Beef

Cake from Swiss bake

Swiss Bake has many interesting looking cakes, and their cakes size is lovely just for 2 person. Aesthetics wise, they already score for it, taste wise, they score pretty high too i must say. Prices are around $20 and is located at quite a few places actually - I got mine from holland village cold storage. they have a website if you are interested.

4.3 cocoa cake/ 5.0 cocoa cake

Ochacha... here i come... @ Raffles City

Just about a month ago, Breadpig organised a foodie outing to Ochacha and i wanted to go too! But i was in Taiwan. When i came back and saw all the pictures that they have posted up... Day and night ive been thinking of it... loL... I must try the green tea and the sandwiches!

and so here i am at Ochacha!

Mushroom Soup - Lots of mushrooms bits and chunks and hence its name. lol. Seriously, the amount of mushroom is pretty generous, but sadly, its a tat too salty... its way too salty actually. It will be great if the soup can bring out the natural taste of the mushroom itself without the overpowering salty taste. But it is still not too bad comparable to other soups.

Azuki Freezie ($6.50) - Ice Blended Green Tea with Azuki Red Beans
The aroma of the green tea is still pretty strong despite the sweetness of the red beans. Blending green tea and red beans is indeed ingenious... I love these!

Furikake Salmon Sandwich ($5.90) - Furikake is the small little bits of things that is sprinkled over the salmon. The salmon is quite alot for the size of the sandwich, salmon lovers will definitelylove this... and yes i do! But the wierd thing is how come I am given wholemeal bread that looks like it is from Gardenia... and why Breadpig was given another type of bread? hmm hmm... but i am fine with it cos i love wholemeal anyway.

The sandwich set comes with the garden salad, which has lettuce, cherry tomatoes, japanese cucumber, corn and some wasabi coated peas... there is also a few piece of chips by the side. thanks goodness its only a little.

Wasabi Tuna Sandwich - This sandwich is more evenly toasted, which i prefer... It is stuffed pretty generously with wasabi tuna, and you can tell the staff the intensity of the wasabi during your order, either strong or normal. Every bite has a strong hint of wasabi...cheerios to wasabi fans.

Overall, I like O cha cha... and it will definitely be my tea time hangout area should I be around the vicinity...

Hot Cross Bun from Four Leaves

Hot Cross Bun

After my trip to the gym or swim, I will usually pop by at Four Leaves for their wonderful array of bread! Now you should know I am a bread person. Good to replenish some simple sugars back into the body after a good workout... But my all time favourite bread is still my own peanut butter toast with melted cheese... :)

Ok ok...so this is hot x bun... its spiced and it has raisins in it... the cross on it is just pastry glazed onto the bun, but the four leaves version has apricots in it!

Interested to know how Hot Cross Bun came about? read here-----> HOT CROSS BUN history

Blueberry Bagel and Peanut Butter

I thought Donuts are bad...

but...

I got cheated! Not by someone... but by something... its this bagel!

Blueberry Bagel - from Carrefour
Otisspunkmeyer BarnStorm BAGELS

It says on the package: You want the freshest possible flavor, with the greatest possible convenience. It's not revolutionary - but it's what we learned from more than 20 years of making our Famous Otis Spunkmeyer Fresh-baked cookies

Our Product delivery squadron of Otis Spunkmeyer Barnstormer keep its flights on schedule - ensuring that only the freshest product is available to you. You'll find that same thinking behind every Otis Spunkmeyer product...from cookies to muffins to bagels. Top flight flabor. Top fligh quality.

Taste the quality in Barnstormin' Bagels TM. They're soft, chewy and loaded with flavor. Great for breakfast or lunch - anytime of day...alone, toasted with jam or cream cheese, or as terrific base for a great sandwich.

Its really very chewy, and the taste of blueberry quite strong, but very artificial.

Nutritional Value per bagel wise: not too bad
Total Fat: 1g Total Carb: 44g of which are Sugars 5g Protein: 8g

not too bad right... until... i ate one... read the ingredients... and realised it contains...

HIGH FRUCTOSE SUGAR SYRUP

geez...

what the hell is HFCS?

Fructose... Maybe Not So Natural...and Not So Safe

High-fructose corn syrup

Bagels can be healthy... look out for whole grain and those without High Fructose Corn Syrup

Bought Peanut butter again... This time round... S - for Smooth

Indeed smoother as compared to the previous chunky version, which i had a hard a very hard time spreading... so end up eating one bite of bread with one teaspoon of the chunky peanut butter.

Sandwich

Pineapple Sandwich

My lunch was this - Home made Sandwich by me. What's so special about this sandwich!? It has Egg, cheese, ham and fresh PINEAPPLES! First time add fruits to my sandwich, and this has to be one of the best sandwich i ever made for myself! The bread is crispy, The egg is still watery, The ham is still juicy (not overcooked), the cheese is melted and not burnt... and most imptly... the pineapples (the yellow pieces of stuffs in the pic) which i added, give an extra twist of sweetness and juiciness with each bite!

Something light for lunch as i can anticipate a heavy dinner later... uh oh...

Bread from Provence

Provence

Located in a quiet corner of Holland Village, it took me really some time to finally locate this bakery shop. Went there in the weird hours where the least crowd is expected, but the bakery is still quite packed. So much good reviews about these place, hence I have a very high expectation of their bread!
Cafe - Bakery style

Very Wide Variety of Bread - a fusion of Japanese and French Flavas

ah...i cannot decide what i want....

Ended up buying a wide variety of bread to try out!
I believe that to find out whether a bakery is good, you gotta try their An Pan (Red Bean Bun)

Bread ready for inspection!

L - R:
An Pan (Red Bean with Skin) - 4.4/ 5.0- Mama Bakery at Square 2 is better
Raisin Bun - 4.0/5.0 - The Exterior is like Polo bun, one of the nicest raisin bread I ever tried
Brazilian Cheese Bun - 3.0/5.0 - Chewy bread, and its deep fried and tt makes me really hate it.

L - R:
An Pan version 2 (Red Bean with Skin) - 4.0/ 5.0
Milk Bread - 4.4/ 5.0 - The bread is very very soft, and has thin layer of light of milk custard, not too heavy.
