Revisit to Noodle House Ken - More Ramen = More Happniess

This is a revisit to Noodle House Ken, and this time round I treated my family! My previous visit, I only get to try 2 favours... this time round... FIVE! =D I mentioned in the earlier post that there was a lady with some atiitude, this revisit we saw her again... I wonder who she is... but for the sake of good food... I shall tahan...

I shall keep this post short, as all the below are good, and shan't describe too much.

Miso Ramen @ $12 - I did not try this previously, but now that I had, this is my favourite ramen flavour!

4.7 Miso / 5.0 Miso

Cold Noodle @ $12 - My 2nd favourite! A strong hint of sesame taste... See the Gyoza at the top right corner? It is a additional order that cost $5 for 5 Gyozas. I forgot to take a proper picture it.

4.6 Cold Noodles / 5.0 Cold Noodles

Gyoza 2 $5 for 5 pieces - The gyoza taste different from the usual ones that I had. It is meatier and there is a very unique taste.

4.3 Gyoza / 5.0 Gyoza

Kimuchi Ramen @ $12 - I had this previously so click here for reviews on it

4.0 Kimuchi / 5.0 Kimuchi

Char Siew Raman @ $12 - Click here for previous reviews

4.5 Char Siew/ 5.0 Char Siew
Stewed Egg Ramen @ $12 - The Stewed Egg is pretty good, as the yolk is still quite runny but the whites are not. Other than that, it taste quite similar to Char Siew Ramen, difference is just the egg, and instead of 5 slices of Char Siew, you get 2!

4.5 Egg / 5.0 Egg

Some simple mathematics:

5 Slice of charsiew = $5

Therefore,

1 Stewed Egg = 3 Charsiew = $3!

Quite sick of ramen for the time being... too little meat... too much carbs... more meat for me! but i don't mind going back in the future...

10 Diet Destroying Drinks...

10 Diet Destroying Drinks

Of course the list is inexhaustive... but these are some of the baddies according to BB.com.. the list goes on and on... but hope you get the idea of why they are unhealthy... read more to find out more...

Hokkaido Fair @ Isetan Orchard

Many samples for you to try! It feels like I am back in Dan Shui (Taipei) where samples are given out and you can eat until you are filled... lol!
I love nuts, all sort of nuts... healthy(raw) nuts as well as unhealthy(processed) ones! But unhealthy one eat less often larh. The Pinkish nuts on the right is Sakura nuts... It is quite nice and it tastes like sugar coated peanut... I guessed its named Sakura probably due to that pink hue ba... or is there something called sakura taste?
Black Soy Beans are very very high in protein, very low in fats and low in carbs!

And they got many types of scallops. The original taste one is still the best. There are some variants such as grilled with cheese etc, but it is so pricey la...

Anchovies and Furikake to go along with your rice... I seldom eat rice unless its sushi... so i dun need them. =)
"Korokke" or Croquette is a popular french food that was introduced to Japan, and ever since then, many creative and interesting croquettes has been made by the Japanese. It was so popular in Japan that a song was made about it.

“korokke is an everyday dish, we eat korokke today and tomorrow. are we gonna eat korokke all year around?”.

I wanted to buy the Shrimp with Cream Korokke, I just want to get one, but the lady say they already packed in two of the same kind... but why eat the same thing twice??? I dun like this idea, so i never get to try it, but it certainly looks good. There are also fried meat filling and many types la..i cant rmb!

Last year I had the Dango! It is nicer than the ones in Ajiteh. This year there are many choices to choose from, and there are also mochi...

Hokkaido Curry Bun... Pretty Ex for a bun filled with curry... normally Sun Moulin sells for $1 +... Bread talk one got egg some more!

My favourite! Manju in the making... Manju is sort of like a pancake with filling, but ain't exactly a pancake also lar... taste different leh... The manju here made on the spot is somuch nicer than those I had from Hongkong previously...

Available in 2 different fillings - Red Bean and Cream

and these are my eatsss... other than the samplesss... :)

The curry bun is nice, but i don't think it is worth of the price tag it carries. The curry flavor is pretty aromatic, yet there's a fruity sweetness to it, the exterior is thin and crisp, while the interior is soft...not bad!

The Manjus are my favourite! I prefer the cream over the red bean ones... The red bean ones will be better is only they are chunkier.

Sushi! These are not from the Hokkaido Fair, but from Isentan itself... The sushis from Isetan is more expensive (almost double the price) as compared to those takeaway outlets in supermarket... but their sushi is better, hmm... maybe better than sakae sushi? We all know sakae sucks.

and not forgetting...desserts made by my dearest

I love Rumballs, esp those from Hans. I love peanut butter, esp Adams. So my dearest combines the two into Peanut Butter Rum Ball! Oh gosh... it melts in your mouth... The interior is crispy and has peanut butter, coated with chocolate and sprinkled with either chocolate rice, cinnamon powder or peanut brittles.

I just had one first thing I woke up, then went for a 5k run! hehe

A little Hokkaido in Sunny Singapore - Hokkaido Fair @ Isetan Orchard

Hokkaido Fair never failed to excite me! And one of the food that is a must eat to me is the Manju! Held until the end of this month at Isetan Orchard, and from 4 - 13th July at Isetan Tampines!

Got these useful information from Isentan Website

genießen Sie ~

Pink Yogurt @ AMK HUB

About once a week, i will indulge myself in some nice yogurt from Pink Yogurt! Make this wonderful discovery a few months ago at causeway point, and ever since then, I am always back for more! Now there are many outlets other than causeway point, AMK hub and Bugis Junction are two that i know of... maybe there's more but i don't know!

They have many interesting flavours to choose from! But the base yogurt is still the plain yogurt, just that the toppings are different! What is really good about this and make me craving for more is the texture of it... unlike other yogurt which are watery/icy... Pink Yogurt has a very thick and viscous texture. I heard from the staff that it is home-made... how true is it... i don't know!

Anyway, on certain days students like me... =) get to enjoy the $2 cup... but they also dun check..so i guess everyone are students... They have Ice blended too...looks good, but I have yet to try!

Low Fat Low Sugar?

Even if its not, Yogurt does have many health benefits. It contains probiotics - good bacteria that can result in health benefits. Calcium for you know what... stronger bones, prevent osteoporoisis etc. Speculated to improve immune system. Prevent yeast infection. Helps improve disgestion.

And... curb ice-cream craving! at least it does to me...

Many more to come!

SBR - AHM - Singapore Bay Run & Army Half Marathon

This run is 1 week before The Nike + Human Race, and is also 10km. There is a 21km category, but I am joining the 10km non-competitive category. Reason being the difference between Competitive and Non-Competitive is just the medal. I already have one, so why pay additional 10+ bucks just for another medal. Furthermore, frankly speaking... I am joining for the goodies and the promotion... *grinz*

I still remember 2 yrs ago when i ran the 21km, it was a miserable but a hilarious one... cos I have a tummyache when I running through East Coast Park, and I "tahan" all the way until YMCA Orchard!!! OMG...that feeling... my face almost turned green! lol

Details of the Run

Date: Sunday, 24 August 2008
Start Point: Esplanade Drive
End Point: Padang

Mini Donuts and Pancake @ Maricial Kobe Central

Maricial Kobe - mini donuts and pancake

Typical Singaporean reaction - "wah...long queue... must be good"... but this is so wrong... so so wrong. The array of mini donuts and pancake sold at this shop located at the basement of Central are pretty to the eyes, but not to a foodie's tummy.

Mini Donuts - 12 for $4

This mini donuts are actually deep fried by some automated machine and are available in 9 different flavours - Plain, Peanut butter, Peanut, Cinammon, Sugar etc... due to its small size, it is deep fried thoroughly, and hence very cripy... Crispy donuts?!?!? Taste wierd to be biting a donut that is crispy... and certainly toooooooooo sweet... But i guess the sweetness is due to the ratio of its surface area to its volume, it is like chewing on sugar fried ball. did not finish them at all...

Mini Fish Pancake - 10 for $4

I did not finish this as well. The pancake is bland and taste very floury... Appealing to the eyes only. It comes in many flavours such as cheese (which i can't taste any), Kaya, Chocolate etc...

Verdict: I will definitely not come here again... I seldom snack, and i can't believe I wasted sugar and fats on something so bad... -_-

The day ended with some nice fireworks!

Noodle House Ken @ Orchard Plaza

Craving for some ramen?

Come down to Noodle House Ken, specialist in authentic Japanese Ramen. The shop looks like those you see in "Japan Hour" which serves nothing much but ramen, with a counter surrounding the chef. Watch him skillfully toss the noodles while having your fill, making it even more appetising. i believe that a good ramen requires to fufil three criteria - good soupbase, good noodles and good ingredients that goes along.

Let's see how Ken's noodles fare.

Chef at work

Menu - There are in total 8 choices

Condiments on the table - Ice water is also served FOC.

Char Siew Ramen @ $12

I was so shocked when the ramen arrived, cos that bowl is really huge! Half of it is actually just nice for me.

Soup - 4.5/5.0 - The soup is actually prepared by double-boiling for 8 hours! Therefore, no MSG was used at all! The soup is indeed very tasty and full of flavour... it is quite salty but its not due to any added salt i guess, the saltiness could be from the results of 8 hours of double boiling, hence bringing out the flavour. Every single drop was slurped dry by me!

Noodle - 4.4/5.0 - If you like Ajisen noodles, you will dislike it after eating Ken's noodles! It is so Q,so chewy... and you can't help it but to slurp the noodles instead of the usual style of eating that bowl of mee pok you buy from the hawker center. I ate every single strand!

Ingredients - 4.8/5.0 - I simply loveee the char siew (Pork Slices), they are sliced quite thick, yet it is so soft! The added bamboo shoots adds some crunchiness to the occasion bites.

*Tip*: There's a bottle of white sesames, ground some into the broth while its hot and you are into some great broth!

Kimuchi Ramen @ $12

Almost similar to char siew ramen, just that the soup is a tat spicier, but fret not... it ain't as spicy as you think it is. The noodles and ingredients are almost the same as the charsiew ramen, just that there are additional kimchi.

Soup - 4.0/5.0 - The kimchi spoils the taste of the 8 hours double boiled broth. But it is still better than most kimchi soup which uses powder to make the soup base.

Verdict: I will defintely go back again for more!!! Anyway there is a 10% service charge... but do not expect great service.

Noodle House Ken is located @

Healthy Snack - Kichererbse Tonno with Bacon Bits

I am blogging from my office now... chinese call it "",eating snake which means "loafing", Internship is so darn boring... good thing is I get to try many yummy food during lunch time... ABC market, alexandra market, Seah Im, Harborfront, Vivocity, Telok Blangah Market, Ikea, Anchor Point, maybe someday NUS! Can you guess which company i am working at now??? :)

I came up with this simple dish one day when I was kind of bored....

Kichererbse is Chickpeas, and Tonno is Tuna in German. High in Protein and low in fats, yet it is quite delicious. The chickpeas and tuna is soft, but the bacon bits add some crunchiness to it and strong meaty taste to it.
Tuna (in brine) provides about 25or protein, 1g of fats (per 100g serving)

Bacon Bits - 3g of protein , 1.5g of fats (one tbsp serving)

Chickpeas - 12g Protein, 3g fats, 55g Carbs (One Cup)
just mix them up, and here, you have a nice healthy snack!

I was shopping in Suntec when suddenly the durian crave strikes me! I keep thinking of durians and its so damn distracting larh... so i went to carrefour to buy durians! loL. i just have to eat some real durians! I was contemplating hard whether or not i should waste my calories on them... after circling and thinking and circling and thinking around carrefour for some time... Bought 4 boxes, ate almost 2 boxes... and im totally satisfied! haha

The leftovers were made into durian puffs!

Fyi - I love durians! but durians is one of the few fruits that contains quite a significant amount of fats! but also protein.

Ma Maison @ Bugis Junction, Swiss Bake Cake, Provence Scones

This is super overdue la... I still have a lot of food photos stacking up, awaiting me to blog about them! I shall try and blog daily from today onwards, its kind of tedious, kind of like homework stacking up even thou its the holidayS!

Ma Maison - Japanese Western Food

This place was chosen by my girlfren for her birthday! Japanese and Western, both her favourites, fused into one! She will love it!

Very nice deco inside the restaurant... very Victorian style, very romantic too with all the nice lightings and pretty table cloth.

Anyway, see that sign on the table? Ladies get to enjoy 20% off on Monday night! argh... why this discrimination against my gender!

They have a pretty large array of dishes in their menu, but we settled for two voted as the best by bloggers!

While waiting for the food to arrive... fiddling with the stuffs on the table... they provide wet tissue!

and while waiting and waiting and waiting for the food to arrive... Ta da! A Bag of freshly baked scones from Provence for you!

Chocolate Chip scones and cranberries scones! No more lousy four leaves scones! Provence scones is the only scones that I will eat... the texture is what it is to be called scones! Where is Provence? Refer to my past entry here!

4.6 Scones / 5.0 Scones

The first dish arrives - Hamburger Steak @ $19.80

Initially I wanted to order the one with cheese, but i don't know why im so blur and point to the wrong picture when ordering! But its ok! cos this is still as good i supposed. The beef patty is rich in flavour, and I love that sunny side so much! The brown sauce that comes along with it has a very unique taste

4.2 Hamburger / 5.0 Hamburger

Beef Stragonov with Omu Rice

The Omu rice is so closeee to perfection. Thick yet soft layer of warm milky egg enveloping the butter rice, and just like the beef patty, the beef here is rich in taste and soft... its goooooddddd...

4.6 Beef / 5.0 Beef

Cake from Swiss bake

Swiss Bake has many interesting looking cakes, and their cakes size is lovely just for 2 person. Aesthetics wise, they already score for it, taste wise, they score pretty high too i must say. Prices are around $20 and is located at quite a few places actually - I got mine from holland village cold storage. they have a website if you are interested.

4.3 cocoa cake/ 5.0 cocoa cake

The key to?
