Domokun goes to China for "Xiao Long Bao" and India for "Naan with Tandori Chicken"

Domokun likes the Xiao Long Tang Bao at the food court at the basement of Sim Lim Square. But one "bao" is too big for him, so he share half of it with me...

Argggh... Its too spicy for him! Domokun doesn't like spicy food. So in the end, he just eat the tandori and the naan without the curry. The tandori is very well "spiced" and fragrant.

Seems like Domokun like the food court of Sim Lim Square!

Tomorrow Domokun will be flying off already... He does not know about it until today, and only has 36 hours to pack his all-time favourite domokun likes.

Domokun wants to take photo with the Eiffel Tower in Paris

and then take an overnight train... to Germany...

Domokun is very excited!
He wants to take photo with the Sony center am Potsdamer Platz.

Lots of food awaits Domokun, but Domokun just like me, also like to run. So Domukun will be bringing his teeny weeny dokushoe to run there...

Domokun will be back in 2 weeks time!

Arrghhhh!!!!!!!

We yum cha @ Yum Cha

Post-Exam (a very much delayed post) DimSum Buffet at Yumcha

Yum Cha which means 飲茶
which is not literally = lim teh (drink tea)
it just refers to the dining experience of eating small servings of different foods

Guess how I know?
Cos I use Wikipedia ma! I where got so smart... =\

Dimsum Porn!

Mango Prawn Dumpling - I like how the mango and prawn goes together... Too bad it fried... so everybody were like sharing... *health conscious friends i have, hehe.

The Hargow is surprisingly better than what I expected.... fresh prawns and thin skin... BUT the skin tears apart too easily... and This is the STAR of dim sum for me, and it took them soooo long to start serving this... maybe like an hour into the buffet?

Glutinous Rice (Lor Mai Gai)

Phoenix Feet - It just is CHICKEN FEET!

Siew mai took them quite a while to start serving too... and it is again above what I expected... perhaps I came down with a very low expectation after my previous experience.

Fried HarGow

Custard Roll

Fish Fritters

Dumpling with scallop - The scallop is quite big as you can see... but same as the har gow, the skin always tears apart easily

Chilled Chicken
Woots!~ I ate like... hmmmmmmmmmm.... 6 or 7 portions of this? haha. Cos I just came back from the gym, and just nice, free flow of protein for me, so why not? hehe. This chicken is chilled and tender, love it.

Soft Shell crab - more like eating flour rather than crab

Beancurd dumpling

Xiao Long Bao - I like this too. I thought it was pretty good.

Chee Chong Fun - comes in 3 different variety, and we had all 3. Charsiew, Prawn and fish slice (now that's something new)

Yam Puff - The only fried dim sum that im willing to die for, but too bad it wasn't fantastic, and it does taste... hmm.. healthy? Cos it was too dry inside, kind of like eating yam....lol. Peach Garden has nicer ones... will blog about it at a later time!

Guo Tie (Fried Dunpling)

Century Egg Porridge

Dumpling with sharksfin - I don't really rally like to eat sharksfin, because of the cruelty nature of getting the fins. Anyway, this dumpling where got sharksfin lor! that is a good thing actually...

Bamboo shoot + Crab Stick + Chicken - Like this, crunchiness of the bamboo shoot, along with the tenderness of the chicken, and slight tinge of crabby taste

Unknown dumpling

Scallop dumpling

Chicken stuff

Pork Ribs

Dumpling again....

OVERALL -
Each person paid $20 after all the ++
The food is pretty decent
If I take into account the price, and considering that this is a BUFFET, I must say that the food is pretty good for its price
A very wide variety of dishes

Red Star Dim Sum do not deserve any Stars

Red Star

Well, I had my hearty breakfast of 3 slices of bread with peanut butter, cheese and ham, and 3 eggs whites before heading down to this place. The layout of this place is very similar to Fortunate Restaurant, whereby fresh hot dim sums are pushed around by Dim Sum Ladies in trolleys. The a/c is damn cold la, maybe feeling cold and eating hot dim sum with make you feel more shiok?

Reading much reviews on this place, I came with much anticipation... but it does not live up to its name...

Pickled Veg: This is served before you ordered anything. I like this cold dish, as it really freshens you up. But too bad, its not free, it was added into the total cost, I think its $2 or $1.50

Here comes my hot tea pot of crystanthemum tea... bitter... but tea with dim sum is a must!

Egg Tarts: No eggy taste, very sweet. BAD! You want egg tarts? go to Tong Heng for nice soft eggy tarts. You want candy sweet tasting tarts? come here...

Century Egg with minced pork Congee: This is my favourite of all dishes. I like the smoothness, and the strong taste of scallops in the congee. GOOD!

Har Kow: I was looking forward to this, but sadly, the skin is very floury... what happen red star?! The Harkow is has size, but no quality. BAD!

This is some fish paste with mushroom thing: Basically it taste like fishball, except that it is really made of chunks of fish meat and it taste very fresh. The mushroom seated upon by the ball of fish paste. NOT TOO BAD!

Another highly anticipated dish is Siew Mais: It is big, it is chunky but it is very dry. You want good Siew mais? I think the "Tiong Bahru Pau" stall makes better siew mais, bigger better chuckier and meatier. OK LAH!

The Yam/Taro Dumpling: It is very oilyyyyy... but not too bad... pretty good, and I kind of like it. The filling is not too much, so you wont get sick after eating one. Also you can see some chunks of lard inside... so do take note, lard haters. I only realiese this after ordering, so no choice for me! NOT BAD LA!

Will I ever step into Red Star Again? Probably not

Chicken Rice not so Nice - Wee Nam Kee

After reading from some blog about this place, I decide to give it a try! So after my swim, My growling tummy got to tahan until I reach Novena! There are many blogs saying that this place serve one of the best chicken rice, some even say that this is the best in Singapore! A word too "big" to use i guess... Usually this place is very crowded in the evening, probably due to its good location and everyone is hungry after a day's work, and anything taste better when you are hungry...

The garlic paste looks good, I scooped some into my spoon and ate it... there's sesame oil fused in it.

Ahh.... Im hungry, why is the food not here yet??? So i drank the soup... Well the soup taste very "MSG friendly"! so there I am..slurping the soup away until the chicken rice arrives...

Chicken Rice is here! finally... waiting time about 10min on a non-peak afternoon. The rice is very different from other chicken rice outlets. You can see and feel the individual grains in your mouth as you chew on it... very chewy. I must say that the rice is one of the better ones I had so far...

4.4 Rice / 5.0 Rice

Lets zoom in to the Chicken! The chiken looks good on the picture, but it doesn't taste as good as it is. I like Hainanese Chicken whereby the meat is "cold", and the meat is not as tender as it should be... I should have eaten at The Yishun Chicken Rice after my swim. The $6.00 chicken rice is cheaper and nicer than this $9.40 Chicken Rice. (Price is for 2 person). The 40 cents is for the wet tissue.

3.8 Chicken / 5.0 Chicken

will i ever go back again? dun think so...

Jumbo Seafood @ Riverside Point

Chilli sauce and Peanuts

First thing i sat down, was greeted by this 2 on the table... i was hungry then... so i ate the peanuts.... take a photo...

then look at the menu.... then take a photo... then start ordering... oh ya... our reservation was at 6pm, and omg... the time limit was stated, we must finish eating by 730pm!! so must order chop chop (fast fast)

Scallop wrapped in Yam Ring
This was served first shortly after we sat down..like 5min later... I can't really taste the scallop, perhaps the yam taste overwhelms it. I have tried this dish in other places b4, but this dish over here, dunno how they fried la... thou its fried, but it doesn't taste like its fried, just crispy without the oiliness... but of cos, the fact remains...its deep fried... so i just pop one... :)

4.0 Scallop / 5.0 Scallop

Baby Kailan in Oyster Sauce
A min later, baby kailan arrives~ Very fresh and crunchy. Good! Fragrant.

4.3 Kailan / 5.0 Kailan

Fried Prawns with Cereal

Fresh Tiger Prawns were used, and its quite big and juicy... if only its bigger... the biggest prawn i remember eating was back in Thailand...damn big... thats the best prawn i ever had... (pictures later!) But this is still good, anyway im not a cereal prawn lover, as i stil prefer the steamed kind, or with garlic those kind which can bring out the real flavour of the prawn...

4.4 Prawns / 5.0 Prawns
Seafood Paste with Chicken Skin

I got cheated! not exactly cheated, just that i wasn't attentive enough... haha. I thought this is some roasted chicken dish bcos on the menu it was some phoenix chicken... nothing about the seafood paste was mentioned. So it was actually Seafood Paste wrapped with Chicken Skin. Omg.... Chicken Skin... I ate just one... tts it... its not exactly very nice also la... supposed to dipped into the lemon sauce... but... it taste just like normal fish cake lor...

2.6 / 5.0
Soon Hock w Soy Sauce

Soon Hock is not my name... its the name of this fish... kinda weird for a fish to be name this way... shudn't fish be like tilapia or nemo etc? ... But i totally love this fish... Fresh is one thing, it is so tender and the meat is quite thick. On top of that, it virtually melts in your mouth layer by layer when u put in your mouth... *Tip* Dun eat this fish with chopstix... scoop some fish into your spoon together with the soy sauce and "drink" it... yum!

4.8 Soon Hock / 5.0 Soon Hock
Mantou... Fried ones for others... steamed ones for me... :)
Jumbo Chilli Crab
The Most wanted has arrived! Big Sri Lankan Crab stir fired in rich and spicy and sweet chili sauce. The amount of gravy was so much... enough for all the mantou + all the bowls of rice + some more left to drink... haha. The Crab is very fresh, the meat doesn't stick to the shell and one whole piece just... kapak... come out.. shiok! Put some crab meat into your spoon with some gravy and savor it... oooo... but the best crab i had was in Vietnam... but this is close to it.

4.6 Crab / 5.0 Crab

Black Pepper Crab

I think btw this 2 crab, i prefer BP crab more than the C crab. The Chili crab gravy is nice, but the gravy covers the true taste of the crab meat already, nice thou... but i still prefer the black pepper as i can truly taste the meat taste. The Black Pepper might be a bit too spicy for those who cannot take spicy food...

4.7 Crab/ 5.0 Crab

their dessert sounds boring... so we decide to go in search of desserts!
