Ribeye Steak at Astons Ang Mo Kio

ehh *scratch heads* what to eat eh? so many choices...

Good news to heartlanders staying in AMK... Astons now have a branch in AMK! Its a good news to me too because usually I am so lost as to what to eat after my gym... there's nothing meaty and nice in that area (yishun). So now I have one more alternative! :) lways looking forward to a nice meal after gym with my makan cum training buddy! Time to pamper ourself!

My order - Ribeye Steak xtra cut - $ 15.90

Ribeye xtra cut means another 70g of beef, making it 250g. The yet to upsized one cost $12.90 and is only 180g. I chose bbq beans and baked potato (w/o butter) as sides. The ribeye was done as i wanted... medium... fantastic!

See... still quite bloody and the interior is still tender. Each bite is soooo juicy and the taste of beef is just soooo good.

Darius ordered this... same as mine, just that he got onion rings instead.

After reaching home, I ate a pineapple.... why?!?

We can eat lot of meat and protein stuffs, but our body might not be able to digest and ingest them effectively. So eating fruits such as pineapple aids in the disgestion of the protein as it contains a proteolytic enzyme. That's why sometimes we see people serve meat alongside with pineapple rings!

Charcos the chicky meal @ Amg Mo Kio

and so this is what i went after my gym session!

Charco's! Dun ask me why is it called charcos, i have absolutely no idea... Anyway just a brief introduction to this place. Charco's is similar to Kenny Rogers style, roasted chicken, that come in quarter, half or whole, served alongside with sides. On top of this, they have a larger array in their menu, burgers, ribs and kebabs etc...

2 types of Chicken to choose from, not male or female. Its either Charco's style, or the more expensive version, Portuguese style.

The salad bar is very long la... so long that i cannot take the whole row... Many types of salad to choose from... normally you get to choose 3 sides for a set meal. Just to name a few: Egg salad, Potato salad, Avocado chicken salad, tuna salad, caesar salad, seafood salad, bla bla bla salad and so on...

This was taken during my first trip: Half Chicken (charco's) with Chicken Avocado Salad, Seafood Salad and Caesar Salad. The Chicken is Humongous! It is very tender and juicy inside, and the plus point is that it is roasted! (healthier la) The salad comes in a very generous amount also. My favourite will be the seafood salad, which comes with crabstick meat, quite big and juicy prawns. The Chicken avocado salad has little or no chicken, and i have already feedback to the towkay (boss). The caesar salad is not too bad either.

This is my revisit: Darius ordered this. The burnt-look half chicken is the Portuguese style, and he chose Potato salad, seafood salad and one more unknown salad. D

Damage was $13.50

My order! Half a Chicken, with Tuna salad + Egg Salad + Seafood salad = A Happy me!
The tuna salad has some spices inside, but it has quite alot of tuna, makes a tuna lover like me damn happy la. Can you see the white mass at the right corner??? That's the egg salad, lotsa egg whites... save me time from the peeling of egg shells! not forgetting my favorit Seafood Salad!

I like them all! =)

Damage was $11.50, cos charco's is slightly cheaper

Yet another Yong Tau Hu, in Ang Mo Kio again!

Why is it that all the nice Yong Tau Fu is in Ang Mo Kio!? Geez!

I was supposed to run some errands by myself (can you see how much my mentor trust me? keke. maybe he shouldn't!) at Ang Mo Kio Techplace 1 during my internship at HP a few weeks back. But instead of going back to HP after settling some stuffs at techplace, I went over to the market nearby for my YTH fix! :D

I have tried this stall previously, and I am in love with with their YTH especially the chilli! Now that I happen to come here again... how can i not eat their YTH again!

Damn Good YTH at Damn Good Price, served with damn good chilli!

(No matter how healthy YTH is, eating too much of it will not do you much good either. Small and frequent meals pls! I overheard this happy customer's order, it was an expensive one... 5+ bucks... omg... i dunno how one can chomp that whole bowl down, served with 2 bowls of rice, and he was happily eating opposite where I was sitting) When I saw that, I was utterly in awe! Mine was $2.80 only, without nice/noodles.

yum yum... So healthy right... lol. The chili sauce x2 because i simply like it soooo much. The sweet sauce however was untouched.

An Pang Yong Tau Fu again @ Ang Mo Kio again

Ang Mo Kio really is really a place full of Yong Tau Fu, plus they are the nice ones. Just less than 100m from this stall and this stall at AMK Hawker, I found another YTH stall at a nearby coffeee shop. On top of the normal dry and wet version, they also have the "An Pang" Yong Tau Fu.

In terms of variety, they have a very large array of selections, and many of which are the unusual ones - the very own creations of the boss. So what is An Pang Yong Tau Fu? An Pang looks very similar to An Pan (Red Bean Bun), so please dun be mistaken, for no one eat YTH with red bean bun. -_-

You see that plate of ingredient drizzled with some sauce? yep. thats An Pang YTH! It is basically the dry version, drizzled with some starchy gravy over it. The gravy taste kind of like Hor Fun gravy leh... I thought it taste kind of weird. Definitely prefer the soupy version over this.

Handmade Yong Tau Hu @ Ang Mo Kio Hawker Centre

Wanted to eat my favourite Yong Tau Hu Stall, but then.... its not open for "Who knows?" reasons... so... not wanting to waste my trip down here... and still wanting to eat my healthy bowl of Yong Tau Hu, I surveyed the place and realised theres 2 more stall selling YTH too... out of randomness, i settled for the handmade one.

The difference between handmade Yong Tau Hu and the one i eaten earlier is that:

1. You cannot choose the ingredients
2. Standard Price vs variable price
3. You cannot ask for no noodles, which I sometimes do request
4. The Handmade YTH Stall has nicer chilli sauce!
5. The Handmade YTH stall has nicer noodles... mixed with the sauce and eat it... and you will end up finishing the whole bowl!
6. The Handmade YTH Tofu is sooo much softer

Overall, this stall is comparatively pretty good as well, just that it lacks the variety, but nevertheless, it scores in other areas as mentioned above. Worth a try!

Black Pepper Chicken @ AMK S11

Used to patronise this stall back in my JC days... and they are good for their fried food! Especially the Chicken Cutlet!

Their array of western dishes

I love meat! Black Pepper Chicken Chop! Do you realised that there's no fries? Cos i ask for more beans to replace the fries ( dun wanna clog my arteries) Remove the chicken skin and you get a much much muchhhhh less sinful meal, about 80% of the fats will be gone! The salad is another killer with all the mayo, it will be better if it is replaced by steamed veggies, but for that small portion of mayo, it still ain't that bad after all... the garlic bread is very well toasted.

Anyway the portion used to be bigger, has the chicken has shrunk in size?

Ang Mo Kio Hawker Center Yong Tau Foo

Anyway is it Yong Tau Foo or Yong Tau Hu?
im confused... can someone please enlighten me?

extracted from The Sunday Times on 24th Feb 2008
written by Thng Lay Teen

Its featured on The Sunday Times! Yes... This stall deserves some praise... but if everyone knows about this treasure... will the owner:
1) Hike his price?
2) The queue become very long, and I have to wait like 30min???
3) More customers, therefore quality drop?

kk...

Things I agree with the article:
1. Nice sweet sauce
2. Toasted sesame adds a nice touch, aesthetically as well as to the taste
3. Yellow beans are tender
4. The Soup is really good
5. Fresh
6. Deep fried items, crispy outside, tender inside
7. Should be able to get your food in 15min
8. Don't expect a service with a smile... True.. been there many times, but never see the uncle smile before... but think of it this way... He is selling his food, how to smile at every single customers? Not customer service leh...

Things I disagree with the article
1. Chili sauce that stands out
2. More than 40 types, theres a lot of variety, but i don't think theres 40... well... I will count on my next visit
3. The fried homemade pork balls are supposed to be hard... its over fried intentionally to bring out the meaty aroma
4. WHY 3 STARS??? I GIVE IT

4.2 STARS
