I'm not a nutritionist but I believe everything should be eaten in moderation, so carbs are absolutely necessary to make for a balanced meal. No?
btw, HL milk is not really "milk", you didn't realise this? You should really be drinking Real Milk! :)
I think that depends on what you want. Moderation is the way to go for many. But if your daily activities or lifestyle is different, then your nutrition intake should change accordingly so that is it able to meet the extra, unmet nutritional demands.
For example, athletes require more minerals than people who are sedentry. so if you ask them to eat what a sedentry person would, 60% carbs, 20% protein 20% fats, they will not be able to recover fast enough and this can lead to degenerative diseases due to the lack of nutritions/minerals for their bodies.therefore theres all these supplements stores popping up all over the island. :)
I guess nutrition intake depend on your goals. for someone like me who exercise on a daily basis, i need to up my protein intake for repair and growth etc.
in short, the so-called balance-meal tt we have been educated all along is just a guideline for many, but there's much much more to it!
food and nutrition is a very interesting subject... thks for this stimulating discussion! :)
and for HL milk, it still uses fresh milk, but yea its less "real" than real fresh milk, but why take in the unecessary higher sat. fats and lactose...
haha I guess I'm talking nutrition to a "wrong" person. :p yep I guess you need more proteins! :)
The HL milk I meant that it's fortified, and there's a lot of added emulsifiers and flavorings. Don't you agree it tastes sweet? I think it's the lactase. no?
I prefer au naturel milk. :)
I agree that HL milk tastes too sweet and has too many additives for me so I choose to drink the other brands.
If you exercise alot, carbohydrates are very important to give you energy. Protein is important but so are carbs :)
hi alicia!
yeah carbs are impt... but shud be taken post workout... and it is better to be complex carbs.
The proportion of it as part of your diet, and when (breakfast lunch or dinner etc) you consume it also matters a lot.
here's something interesting about fresh milk vs HL! :)

actually hor, HL milk taste sweet but its sugar content is pretty low, 10g. some other brand can go up to 20+g of sugar...
http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/food/marigold/hl-milk
its a give and take i supposed, those emulsifiers and stablisers etc in exchange for less sat. fats... but im not too sure if there is any harmful effects of emulsifiers and stabilisers... however we are all sure sat. fats does!
cheerz~
