NUS Arts Canteen - The Deck

Have been so busy with sch work this whole week that i hardly have time to go out for a meal... But in NUS there's also "edible" food. You want Chinese Food? There are many Chinese stalls catered to the different China students - Singapore Chinese food in every canteen, Beijing Chinese food at SRC, Another China chinese stall at Yusof Ishak House and Si Chuan Chinese Food at Arts Canteen, which im going to blog about.
Usually on weekdays, the queue for this stall is extremely long. But i was there on Saturday, so without much effort i get to try something from this stall. I supposed the food is very authetic in terms of its "Sichuan-ness" since the cooks and stall owners are speak very fluent and zai cheena chinese.
担担面 Dan dan Noodles

Ths is a classic dish of Sichuan origin which consists of spicy ground peanut and sesame sauce drizzled over noodles, and its taste is usually very garlicky, and often served with cold sliced cucumbers and beansprouts. Theres a colder version to this known as (kind of duh) cold noodles or 凉面, remember its 凉 and not 冷! else the chinese guy at the stall will be laughing away at your chinese...
The noodles are very chewy, but finishing one bowl of it can be rather tedious as the amount of noodles (carbs warning!) they serve is very generous. It will be better if theres more minced meat and spicier...

宫保鸡丁(Kung Pao (pow!) chicken)

A bit of history to this dish. The dish is named after Ding Baozhen in the Qing Dynasty era. He was the head Shandong province and later as governor of Sichuan province, with his title: Gōng Bǎo (宮保). And thats how the name of this dish came about!

The chicken pieces are braised in rice wine, dry whole chillis, bean paste and red vinegar, and accompanied by carrot slices, spring onion batons and roast peanuts. It is smoky, barbequey and sweet. Last time it used to be spicer, but now i cannot really taste the spiciness anymore.

Unlike those fake Guan Bao which you find in many zi char stall, its taste is very different. Its not just spicy diced chicken, you can taste the slight tinge of wine and spiciness from the sichuan chilli. And when you bite on the roasted peanuts together with the diced chicken and a mouth of rice..... yummz....

in my 3 years there, This is only my 2nd time trying this! Because its either always sold out by the time i am there, or its not available on that day!

Mr Baoz! e revolutionized bao

Mr Baoz Outlet in Taiwan
A very interesting concept, adding modernity to traditonal baos. Started off in Taiwan and speculated that there will be an outlet in our beloved SG soon! Will you ever try this baos? I will definitely try them even though I'm not a Bao-fanatic, just look at the next few pictures... how can you resist buying one to try! Hope the speculation is right!
The Packaging - just like dunkin donuts
This food will change your lifestyle, i believe it will...
Whats in the box?! Assortment of baos nicely decorated and uniquely flavoured.
Don't you think they look more appetitzing than donut factory? :)

Ritter Sport Review

Ritter Sport mini @ $4.50
Suddenly I have a craze over Ritter Sport chocolates... so i decided to "sacrifice" myself by eating up those calories so as to bring to you (my loyal E.A.T Fans) the "Official Ritter Sport" Review. Bought them from NUS coop at $4.50.... but today... I found a place... selling at only $4.05! This whole packet comes in 9 mini packaging, but some flavours were repeated, and certain flavours like rum, raisin and hazel, raisin and hazel, 50% Dark were not available in this mini packaging.
So after trying all of these flavours, now I am qualified to tell you whats hot and whats not! lol. Kk.... enough of yada yada....

Best Flavour Arranged from Best to Worst!

1. Knusperflakes - Its actually Chocolate and Cornflakes, making it so crunchy, and not too over-chocolatey! My favourite! Gonna get the big packet for this!

2. Joghurt - Yogurt layer between the chocolate, adding a sour yogurty after-taste to the chocolate. Ate it chilled as well as warm... and chilled taste so much better!

3. Marzipan - Its actually Almond Paste "giap" in between chocolate layer. Instead of chewing on almonds, this flavour blends in the almond taste into each bite.

4. Knusperkeks - Bicuits coated with chocolate! Best eaten chilled! If its warm, the biscuit will be too soggy and soft. Unlike cornflakes which is crunchier, this one is only crunchy within one layer.

5. Haselnuss - Like normal Cadbury chocolate bar with hazelnuts. Only difference is that Ritter Sport chocolate is so much nicer and chocolatey yet less sweet than Cadbury! Cadbury is like eating sugar bar!

6. Nugat - Supposed to be Nougat blended with the chocolate, but i cannot really distinguished the nougat from the chocolate. Texture is slightly thicker than the normal milk chocolate.

7. Vollmilch - In short... its just milk chocolate... nothing special.. but let you get a taste of how ritter sport chocolate taste like.

Quote of the Day

"Activity is better than Inactivity" - Gombak Camp

I remember last time when i was still an army "boy", on the wall of the gombak camp gym, there were a few quotes and one of them was the one above. It is pretty self-explainatory. Basically whenever you have nothing better to do, why not just do some activity, even taking a walk or a 1km jog is better than nothing.

Astons Revisit!

Revisit to Astons! This time round with 7 people and we "hollanded ( got lost)", but managed to reach there at 6pm, but lucky no queue on a Friday evening. It was worth it, at least to me... not sure about the 6 others... :)
Ribeye Xtra cut with Onion rings and Potato Salad

Prime Sirloin with Pasta Salad and Whipped Potato

Ate this... verdict is just pay the extra $2 to get a ribeye instead, its so much better than sirloin...
